By 23rd July 2020October 30th, 2020Blackboard
Deadline: August 22, 2020

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a position in the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies, Department of Korean Studies/Center for Korean Studies, as a

Tenure-track professor (W1) for Korean Studies

to commence as soon as possible.

The holder of this tenure-track professorship will be required to collaborate on a broad thematic basis in all Korean Studies degree programs and take part in the teaching of language skills. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter. The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research in a central field of modern Korean culture or society on the basis of a social science or humanities methodology.

Applicants must have an outstanding Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a relevant area, noted publications, and teaching experience, as well as outstanding Korean language skills. The successful candidate will furthermore be expected to take part in interdisciplinary research initiatives within the Humanities Faculty.

This is a tenure-track position and is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation after six years is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.

Applicants must be in an early stage of their career; those who have completed a habilitation will therefore be excluded.

Here you can find the evaluation criteria for the transition to a full (W3) professorship and our quality assurance plan.

Applicants for a tenure-track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.

The University of Tübingen is particularly interested in increasing the number of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages women candidates to apply. In line with its internationalization agenda, the university welcomes applications from researchers outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.

Applications (including a curriculum vitae and description of academic career, scanned copies of degree certificates, list of publications, list of classes taught, overview of core research) along with up to five selected publications are to be sent in electronic form to the Dean of the Faculty of the Humanities, bewerbung@philosophie.uni-tuebingen.de by August 22, 2020. Enquiries may also be sent to this address.
