The Korean Studies Association of Australasia Emerging Researchers Group (KSAA ERG) invites paper proposals on the “Dynamics of Change on the Korean Peninsula: 1987 – 1992” for a conference to be held online via Zoom on July 20 – 21, 2022. This conference is designed to provide a forum for Early Career Researchers (ECR) in Korean Studies to present their research findings. The recent passing of Roh Tae-woo, the first leader of South Korea’s democratic era, triggered a debate on the myriad of new policies and reforms that influenced a range of societal, political, and regional issues during the Roh era. His administration introduced a new policy toward North Korea, initiated a range of domestic reforms, and permitted new debates among the public. Contrariwise, Roh is also remembered for subverting change, hindering a range of issues, social progress and so on. Many important changes occurred in this period, and this conference seeks a range of academic perspectives to offer interpretations of the key issues of the period. We welcome papers from any discipline, if the proposal is directly related to this topic.Abstracts for the conference are due April 15, 2022, though scholars are encouraged to get in touch as early as possible.Presentations and PapersThe deadline for abstracts is April 15, 2022. All successful applicants will be expected to give 30-minute presentations (20 minute presentation and 10 minutes Q&A) and will have to submit their full paper (7-10 pages) by June 20th. The main winner will receive AUD$750 and the runner-up will receive AUD$500.We are in preliminary discussions with a prominent SSCI journal in the field about a special issue. We hope to publish a special issue with the best papers from this conference.
